Week Eight Pick Ups

Far out producing your starter
Starting off the 2010 year three QB's had some potential/ buzz to be great fantasy players this year; Brett Favre, Tony Romo, & Jay Cutler. All three were surrounded with great talent at WR, great RB's to make the defense respect the chance of a run, and histories of throwing for gobs of yards and touchdowns. All three have had their moments of greatness, but now they find their selves no longer worthy of being your starting QB.

  • Brett Favre has returned to Brett of old throwing his 10th interception Sunday in only 6 games. He has only 1 game this year in which he has thrown more then 1 score, and his health looks very iffy Sunday because of his ankle. He plays on the road Sunday vs. NE, and his career on the road with Minnesota hasn't been so fortunate.
  • Tony Romo has put up good consistent numbers all season, plus his share of turnovers, but now that he has a fractured clavicle he is out indefinitely. He may be out 6 weeks, and after that the Cowboys season will be all for lost giving Romo and Coach Phillips no reason to put up big numbers in a hope to save the season.
  • Jay Cutler had two very impressive games at the beginning of the season as it looked like Mike Martz had resurrected his career, and solved his turnover woes. However, since being sacked into a concussion against the NY Giants Cutler has played dreadfully. 1 TD in his last 3 games plus 4 interceptions in one game make Jay Cutler owners sorry they ever drafted him. Since he's on a bye Cutler owners are already in need of a bye week replacement, but he may need to be replaced for the remainder of the season.
Since that eliminates 3 top tier quarterbacks who does that leave to play? Undrafted QB Ryan Fitzpatrick. It sounds stupid to suggest that the QB of the Buffalo Bills should be your starting QB, but take a gander at these stats since his week three arrival
  • 2nd only in QB rating to Peyton Manning (102 qbr)
  • Only 1 fumble in 4 games (translation: his o-line is blocking for him)
  • Averaging 1 interception per game (when his run game is as stagnant as it has been its no wonder this number isn't higher)
  • 11 touchdowns in those 4 games
  • Averaging 242 ypg (better then Joe Flacco, Brett Favre, & Tom Brady)
This weekend Fitzpatrick plays against the 25th ranked passing defense in Kansas City. In the first half of last week's game at Arrowhead Jags QB Todd Bouman made the Chiefs D look silly. Fitzy should have no problem exposing the Chiefs pass defense just the same.

Other notable pick ups:
  • QB, Chad Henne, Miami Dolphins: 8 touchdowns and 242 ypg is still better then what Favre is giving you.
  • WR, Kenny Britt, Tennessee Titans: believe it or not but he is still available in 36% of ESPN standard leagues. What does 5 straight games with a td have to do to make you pick him up!
  • WR, Steve Johnson, Lee Evans, Buffalo Bills: someone has to catch Fitzy's passes. They have 9 of his 11 td passes.
  • RB, Mike Hart, Indianapolis Colts: this is on pure speculation alone, but it looks like Donald Brown and possibly Joseph Addai will be no-shows Sunday giving Hart the opportunity for a lot of carries against a Texans D that gives up at least a touchdown and 104 ypg to opposing RB's.
